Hold each letter still for about a second until it's added. To repeat a letter (like the L's in HELLO), relax or lower your hand, then sign it again. Draw J and Z in the air. It reads fingerspelling (the ASL alphabet) only. Whole ASL signs and grammar aren't covered.

Your words

Words in another language are translated to English first, then fingerspelled. Accented letters are signed as plain letters (é as E). Numbers and punctuation are skipped. Repeated letters get a small bounce, and J and Z are drawn in the air. Signers use whole-word signs for most everyday words; fingerspelling is mostly for names and new words.

Finn teaches fingerspelling: spelling a word with the 26 hand letters. Most everyday words also have their own whole-word ASL sign, which Finn doesn't teach yet. The voice button uses your browser's speech recognition.
